Tilda Goldberg Centre for Social Work and Social Care

Director: Professor Emily R. Munro

The Tilda Goldberg Centre for Social Work and Social Care's mission is to provide a strong empirical foundation for policy and practice development and by so doing to improve service user experiences and outcomes.

Our research has advanced the use of innovative research methods that facilitate exploration of the world of direct social work practice and participatory methodologies that ensure that service users, including children and young people, have a voice, and that their views and experiences shape the design and delivery of social care services.

The team have expertise in:

  • Safeguarding children
  • Evaluation of whole system change in children’s services
  • Observing and analysing social work practice with children in need, children looked after and young people leaving care
  • Embedded research approaches to evaluate evidence based practice
  • Developing practice and supervision frameworks to assess practice skill and support continued professional development
  • Adult safeguarding and self-neglect
  • Substance misuse and ageing
  • Participatory research methods
