University of Bedfordshire Media Production students returned in triumph from the Royal Television Society Awards to the University’s annual Media Networking event held in Soho, London.

After attending the prestigious awards, students Ismael Ahmed and Florin Brinza who each claimed Runner Up respectively in the fiction and non- fiction categories for their films; joined fellow students at the networking event held at Grace’s Bar’s trendy Milk Bar.

The annual event allowed current Television Production and Media Performance students, alumni, university staff and industry professionals to network in the heart of London’s media heartland.

Now in its fifth year, the networking party is organised by the university to give students in all years an exclusive taste of what industry events are like.

Amongst the crowd were high profile industry professionals such as Ian Hamilton a Freelance Director currently working on ITV’s The Chase, and whose past credits include Piers Morgan Life Stories, The National Lottery and Who Wants to be a Millionaire.

Also in attendance was Neil Koenig, BBC Series Producer for the BBC World News, and BAFTA award winning Executive Producer Mark Jacobs.

Colman Hutchinson, Executive Producer for ITV’s High Stakes and Richard Wyllie – a Specialist Factual Documentary Producer/Director for BBC1 and ITV1 – were joined by the likes of David McCelland, a Technology Reporter and Broadcaster who is currently resident technology expert on BBC’s Rip Off Britain and Watchdog.

Kathryn Wolfe, Course Co-ordinator for BA (Hons) Television Production, commented: “This fifth industry networking event proves yet again that University of Bedfordshire students can hold their own when engaging with top TV producers, and line up work for themselves.

“It’s an important step for students to have the confidence to mingle with the industry and learn the skills of networking,” she continued.

“Alumni come back to the event year after year to pass on their knowledge (and job contacts) to current students, and they too pick up work – so everyone gains!”

Some of the alumni in attendance included Sam Darlaston, currently working for KISS FM and Andrew Griffin who is working on the new Harry Potter feature film prequel Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
