Luton Sixth Form takes over RadioLaB 97.1FM again for two weeks this month.

The community station based at the University of Bedfordshire is giving its schedule to students from the College’s BTEC Radio course for a fortnight, starting on Monday 20 June.

A team of students and their teacher will take to the airwaves each day between 8am and 4pm. It’s the culmination of a year’s learning about broadcasting and radio production. Each hour long show will have a different presenter or presentation team, and a different feel, giving audiences a huge range of shows.

Music includes 80s and 90s hits, R’n’B, soul, today’s biggest tunes and everything in between, mixed with features, chat, and a few interviews along the way.  All the presenter led shows will be broadcast live except for Wednesday 22 June when, in a first for the Takeover, there’ll be a day of shows produced at the College’s own studios.

Luton Sixth Form College radio teacher Andy Waterfield said: “It’s great that we’ve been invited back to RadioLaB now for the fourth year running, and let loose with their schedule for two weeks. Students have worked so hard to take part in this unique experience which enormously enriches the BTEC Radio course at the College and provides them with valuable experience in communication techniques.  There are few similar courses in the country offering such an experience.”

RadioLaB Co-ordinator at the University Terry Lee said: “I’m delighted to welcome Luton Sixth Form College back to Radio LaB. This is a wonderful partnership between two of the town’s leading educational providers, and I’m really looking forward to hearing the talented students on air.”

The takeover begins at 9am on Monday 20 June, and lasts for two weeks. You can listen by tuning your radios to 97.1FM or at: radiolab.beds.ac.uk/player
