Mallory Franklin , a University of Bedfordshire sports scholarship student has won a double gold medal at the annual British Universities & Colleges (BUCS) Canoe Slalom Championships (13 - 14 February).

Mallory,  a third year student studying a BSc in Sports Therapy, won both the Women’s K1 and Woman’s C1 events beating students from all over Great Britain. Mallory topped the Women’s K1 table with a time of 110.1 seconds and the Women’s C1 table with 113.7 seconds at the championship which took place at the Tees Barrage International White Water Centre.

Mallory said: “I really enjoyed racing at BUCS, it is a great atmosphere. Winning both events is a really good achievement especially in my last year with the university, and I wouldn't be able to do it without the support of the scholarship and the athletics union!”

Outside of her achievements for the University, Mallory is a three time Senior World Cup Gold medallist,  a two time Senior World Championship silver medallist, a Senior European Silver medallist, an U23 World Championship silver medallist and a two time U23 European Champion.

As a Platinum Sports Scholar, Mallory is awarded £1000 throughout the academic year and also receives free membership of the University’s Aspire Gyms alongside strength and conditioning support.

Assistant Director of Sport, Steve Pitt said: “We are delighted to be able to support Mallory through our Sport Scholarship programme during her time at the University of Bedfordshire.

“It is always fantastic to see our sport scholars achieve so highly whilst representing the University. Mallory is a credit to us and works incredibly hard to achieve such high levels within her sport and academically.”

Bedfordshire’s Platinum Sports Scholarships are awarded each year to students who are currently on a UK sport or international equivalent world class podium or development programme, a current top ten senior GB or international equivalent ranking or have achieved Senior GB or international equivalent representative honours within the last year.
