Students from Egypt got a taste for working as broadcasters and journalists when they visited the University of Bedfordshire over the summer.

The students, from one of the University’s partner institutions, the October University for Modern Sciences and Arts (MSA) in Cairo, visited the Luton campus as part of a summer course.

As well as getting to grips with the University’s state-of-the-art TV studio and newsroom, the students took on roles of producers, journalists, presenters and camera operators to produce programmes and devise stories.

The students had the opportunity to meet with media professionals from the BBC, ITV and local radio stations. They also took in the sights of London and visited the ever-popular Harry Potter World at Warner Brothers’ Studios in Watford.

Director of Learning & Quality at MSA Dr Lamees El Baghdady said: “What delights me the most is that MSA students had literally enjoyed every moment of the visit to the University. The academic and social benefits they gained are invaluable and they were all amazed by the cosmopolitan environment at Bedfordshire. We are looking forward to having more summer visits and enriching our partnership.”

Head of the University’s Department Journalism & Communications Prof Alexis Weedon, said: “Working with our overseas partners is one of the most rewarding aspects of life at Bedfordshire. We cross national and cultural boundaries through our mutual enthusiasm for our students’ welfare and development. Staff and students alike benefit from the insight and increased respect by creating and sharing new knowledge.”
