The increase in the number of graduates gaining good honours has been singled out by the Complete University Guide for the University of Bedfordshire’s 11 place climb in its league table.

The 2018 league table published today (Wednesday 26 April) saw Bedfordshire has the biggest rise in the East of England, climbing 11 places to 109. The gain was attributed to significantly improved scores for good honours; the percentage of students awarded a 1st or 2:1.

The University’s rise was also due in part to an increase in its score for academic services spend. That score details the expenditure per student on all academic services, including library and information technology facilities.

Bill Rammell Vice Chancellor of the University of Bedfordshire said: “It is fantastic to see our efforts in excellent teaching, facilities and support for our students reflected in the 11 place climb in the Complete University Guide.

“League tables generally focus on entry requirements rather than aspirations. This is often at odds with our ambition to ensure all our students, no matter what their background, are able to achieve their potential.”

Bedfordshire recently leapt in annual World University Rankings (Times Higher Education) which placed the University as 64 out of 130* universities in the United Kingdom, and in the 601 to 800 category of best universities in the world.

The University was also revealed earlier this month one of the world’s top young universities in the 2017 Young University Rankings, which rates institutions under 50 years old.

The Young University Rankings measure universities on the quality of their teaching, research, citations, international outlook and industry income. It places less emphasis on reputation.

*The Times Higher Education World University league table ranked the University of Bedfordshire as 64 out of the 91 UK universities. However there are 130 universities in the UK who are eligible to be included in the league table which places Bedfordshire as 64 out of 130 for UK universities.
