The University of Bedfordshire’s Student Union, Beds SU, is celebrating after scooping three awards at this year’s National Union of Students (NUS) Conference.

The first award was a Good standard in the Quality Students’ Unions Programme, an award given to unions who can demonstrate their quality, high standards overall effectiveness. This is the first time Beds SU has received this award.

The Union was also awarded a Good standard in the Green Impact Students’ Union Programme, which recognises unions that bring students and staff together to build greener campuses, curriculums and communities.

Project lead for Beds SU George Cowan said: “It’s a massive win for Beds SU, where we have excelled in both operations and leadership areas. Moving forward we wish to further widen our impact by working more closely with the local community on sustainability projects.”

The third award was the Best Bar None Bronze Accreditation, a nationally recognised certification supported by the Home Office, showing that Beds SU’s venues are running to a quality standard and promote responsible management and operation of alcohol licensed premises.

Beds SU’s Chief Executive Officer Michael Wigg said: “I am delighted that our continued improvement strategy has been given external recognition through these awards. We pride ourselves on being a forward thinking and accessible organisation that truly provides a range of quality services and representational functions to its members and these awards prove that we are travelling in the right direction to achieve this.”
