Bedfordshire student one of a handful to attend Parliament’s Student Leaders training

Student Leaders

Thu 9th November, 2017

A Law student from the University of Bedfordshire was one of a handful of students to take part in the Student Leaders training course delivered by Parliament in Westminster.

Second year LLB (Hons) Law student Anas Sharif was one of only 26 students from UK universities to get the chance to learn more about how the UK Parliament works, the legislative process and how to engage with Parliament about important constitutional issues.

Anas said: “It is truly a remarkable opportunity to be part of an exclusive team and help others to effectively engage with the parliamentary decision making process.  I felt privileged to be trained as a student leader alongside other students from Oxbridge and Russell Group universities.”

The course was aimed at empowering university students to be involved in parliamentary affairs and engage their communities and fellow students in a greater dialogue about the role of the UK Parliament.

The free one day course includes a tour of the Palace of Westminster and interactive sessions focused on:

  • Parliament and Government
  • Legislative Process: how to follow and engage with law making processes
  • Committees and Scrutiny: how to follow and engage with select committees
  • The People of Parliament: the role of MPs, Peers and House staff
