Business School awarded coveted scholarship

Academics from the University of Bedfordshire’s Business School have been awarded a scholarship for their research into embedding equality and diversity into business schools.

Dr Christina Schwabenland and Dr Alexander Kofinas were awarded a scholarship by the Chartered Association of Business Schools, one of only three to be given to UK business schools.

The pair’s project, called Embedding the rich conceptual tapestry of equality, diversity and inclusion in the business school context in relation to teaching, learning and curriculum development, will apply Lego Serious Play methodology to assist academics become familiar with the challenges of tackling equality and diversity challenges in management education.

The award will fund five workshops in Bedfordshire, London and the southeast to further explore this.

Dr Schwabenland said: “This project is important because the effective implementation of equality, diversity, and inclusion policies and practices is an urgent issue yet to be tackled effectively by business schools in the UK and the wider educational community. Using Lego Serious Play allows difficult and complex issues to be explored in a safe and inclusive manner.”

Dr Kofinas said: “We are very excited to receive this very competitive award from the Chartered ABS and we feel it is in recognition of the importance of the subject matter and the innovative methodology applied.”

Partnering to deliver the workshops with Dr Han-Huei (Crystal) Tsay and Dr Anna Romanova from the University of Greenwich, the project aims to influence management education in the Higher Education context and equip future business leaders with the skills they need to work creatively and effectively with diverse teams.
