With the start of a new year, becoming healthier and more active is a priority for many.

With this in mind, the University of Bedfordshire will host a special event which aims to help the local community understand more about physical activity and how it can benefit us.

Pathways to health and wellbeing through physical activity, part of the Beds Talks series, will take place at the Bedford campus on Wednesday 23 January, 5.30-8pm.

Physical activity not only reduces the risk of developing cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes and cancer, but it also boosts self-esteem, mood and sleep quality, whilst reducing stress, depression, and the risk of dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.

Despite this, there is currently an epidemic of physical inactivity, both in this country and around the world.

The team from the University’s Institute for Sport & Physical Activity Research will take guests through the range of ‘pathways’, such as high-intensity interval training or low intensity walking, explaining how these activities can enhance our health and wellbeing.

Beds Talks are designed to bring together the public with researchers and practitioners on topics of mutual interest.
