Children’s television presenter, Kemi Majeks, provided a masterclass in presenting for some of the University of Bedfordshire’s Media Performance students.

Students were able to ask questions, and gain valuable and insightful knowledge from industry expert, Kemi, who is a children’s presenter for Milkshake on Channel 5 and the voice of one of the characters for Ben and Holly’s Little Kingdom.

Speaking to the students, Kemi said: “Before you get into television or even think about doing it practice, practice, practice. Practice in front of your friends and family. When you’re looking to send your show reel in send it into the big guns and the producers of any shows that you’re interested in.

“Before becoming a television presenter I studied for a degree in Business and Finance – so a completely different discipline.

“I had to learn about TV so I then studied a postgraduate degree in Broadcast Journalism.  It taught me about the things that go on behind the camera because if you’re not used to having an ear piece in or something like that then it can throw you off course.

“Courses like Media Performance help students get to grips with the practical bits of presenting and work experience is also really important.”

Rachel Clark, Senior Lecturer and Course Coordinator for Media Performance for Film, TV & Theatre at the University of Bedfordshire, said: “Our course prides itself on bringing in guest speakers from the media industries to deliver masterclasses and workshops to the students.

“Kemi’s recent visit provided an excellent networking opportunity for our students and gave them an insight into the best routes into TV. Our students loved the masterclass and were really excited to work with someone who is currently on a children’s television channel.

“Their dreams became real as they begin their own journey towards working for screen.”
