With its buildings closed to staff and students in line with government advice, the University of Bedfordshire has created a week-long online Open Event to ensure prospective students don’t miss out during lockdown.

Bringing the Open Day experience to the comfort of people’s homes, these online events will give those considering Higher Education the chance to find out everything they need to know about life and studying at Bedfordshire. Register now to access all events: www.beds.ac.uk/online-open-event

Taking place this week (11th – 15th May), each day will cover different course areas from each of the University’s four Schools – Education & Sport, Business School, Health & Social Sciences and Creative Arts, Technologies & Science, with the latter split across two days.

Interactive activities on offer during each daily event will include the chance to hear from and chat to the University’s academics, ask current students questions and learn more about finance, facilities and accommodation.

Organised by Bedfordshire’s Student Recruitment team, staff wanted to make sure A Level students, mature learners and international candidates were still able to access information and ‘meet’ course leaders to help them make an informed decision about their education choices.

Beverley Hoare, Deputy Director of MARC (Marketing, Admissions, Recruitment & Communications) said:

It was incredibly important that the lockdown didn’t stop prospective students from exploring their options for studying at the University. Our team worked closely with faculty Deans, lecturers, academics and student ambassadors in order to create and facilitate these online events, allowing our popular Open Days to go ahead as planned – albeit from behind closed doors!                   We hope that everyone who registers for our Open Events enjoys the virtual Beds experience and is able to gather the information they were after about the University and specific courses.

Prospective students can also visit the Beds SU website to hear from the current Student President and Exec team and find out what societies, sports and extracurricular opportunities (such as volunteering and upskilling) are on offer for all students.

Once each Open Event is finished, the content will be available online to be watched again or shared with friends who may have missed out: https://www.beds.ac.uk/online-open-event
