Developing robust assessment practices

CRELLA has helped promote assessment literacy worldwide since 2008. Examination board staff, teachers and stakeholders have all benefitted from the research that CRELLA has undertaken into assessment literacy and into assessment techniques and practice.

Researchers from the Institute are in high demand to provide specialist lectures, conferences, training and seminars.

In collaboration with major testing organisations such as ALTE in Europe, Eiken in Japan, CELA in Cambridge and LTTC in Taiwan, CRELLA advises teachers and Ministries of Education in many parts of the world on how to improve assessment practice.

The SCF has been strategically applied in teacher education and in assessment literacy projects for teachers with Ministries of Education in Dubai, Ethiopia, Mexico, Oman, Rwanda, Singapore, Turkey and Qatar.

It also underpins teacher training modules on assessment literacy in institutions throughout Russia through PROSET, a €1 million EU-funded project. CRELLA coordinated this two-year project in cooperation with the Russian Ministry of Education and Science and a consortium of 11 Russian universities.

PROSET contributes to the Russian National Qualifications Framework through capacity building and developing expertise in language testing and assessment, and contributes to the comparability of university curricula and the quality of teacher qualifications for schools.

University programmes and the wider practice of teaching and assessment in secondary schools across the Russian Federation are directly impacted. The project also promotes EU-Russia inter-university co-operation and encourages international standards in the Russian regions.
