Supply Chain Management

Building Sustainable Supply Chains

Sustainable Supply Chain Management (SSCM) is defined as the strategic, transparent integration and achievement of an organization’s social, environmental, and economic goals in the systemic coordination of key inter-organisational business processes for improving the long-term economic performance of the individual company and its supply chains (Carter and Rogers, 2008). Apparently, sustainable supply chain is an integrated process and is not just the effort of one firm. The creation of sustainable supply chain requires the cooperation through out the supply chain process, which may involve different value chain processes and various players such as, designers, developers, manufacturers, and marketers. Nevertheless, there is a paucity of research examining the mechanisms, processes, and activities of supply chain firms to improve the coordination and management of the supply chain strategies and operations to facilitate the building of more sustainable supply chains.
