Role of Knowledge Management on Environmental Management Practices and the Firm Performance

Project: The Role of Knowledge Management on Environmental Management Practices and the Firm Performance

Description: There is an ongoing debate for firms to be both "green and competitive". While major studies have focussed on external pressures such as the stakeholders in the manufacturing sector, it is possible that firms in all sectors of the economy can achieve better performances by enhancing their internal capabilities such as environmental practices through knowledge management. In this study, the various aspects of knowledge management are examined for a firm to support its environmental practices for superior sustainable performances in the service industry. According to Rosenblum (2000), the service industry on its own has been found to produce a significant share of the environmental impact on society with about the same energy use and global warming potential as the manufacturing sector. Thus, the potential significance of reducing the environmental impact emanating from the tourism and hospitality sector is considerable.
