Get Active host one-off experience days throughout the year to give staff and students the chance to try something new. These are all free to all Get Active members and non-members can attend certain events for a small additional cost.
Past Experience Days
Willen Lake, Milton Keynes
On June 29th & July 6th 2021, we reorganised our previously postponed Watersport Tasters at Willen Lake in Milton Keynes to try out Kneeboarding and Kayaking. All Get Active participants had no prior experience and the team at Willen Lake made use feel welcome and guided us in a safe and professional manner. We hope we can go back again soon!
Bedfordshire Golf Club, Bedford
We organised a Golf experience day around the course, with 18 holes of golf, nearest-the-pin and longest drive competition, accompanied by bacon rolls beforehand. Get Active had organised golf lessons in Bedford and Luton and those participating in them decided to take their practice on to the course for a really fun day.
Polhill Arena, Bedford
We worked with the Archery team to organise an Archery Tag experience which helped raise money towards the Student Unions fundraising for Sport Relief. We hosted 2 x 1 hour sessions for staff and students to try this new and exciting activity.
Horse Riding Taster
Stockwood Equestrian Centre, Luton.
Get Active members were given the opportunity of a horse riding experience day which was thoroughly enjoyable. As well as riding, participants were given insights into welfare and care practices of the of horses.
Snowboarding and Skiing
Snozone, Milton Keynes
We organised two groups of students and staff to attend Snozone in Xscape, Milton Keynes in order to complete their Level 1 in either skiing or snowboarding. As with other experience days, this was FREE with their Get Active memberships. The interest was so great, that we organised a corporate deal with Snozone for our members, whom continued to increase their competency levels in both skiing and snowboarding. You can see a video of this visit here
We organised another experience visit in 2018 where groups of staff and students could try snow sports for the first time. With some slope passes, those who had built up their skills and were competent skiing or snowboarding, could descend the slopes on their own.
Jump Arena Dodgeball Tournament
We were able to organise a JumpArena Trampoline (!) Dodgeball Tournament in Luton. As well as the tournament, attendees were able to use areas in the facility including the general trampolines, basketball hoops and foam pits. Watch last year's event here
Alexander Sports Centre, Bedford
We organised a Futnet Tournament at Alexander Sports Centre after a taster from England Futnet. A mixture of football, tennis and volleyball, Futnet proved a very excitable experience sport for all Get Active members.
Polhill Arena, Bedford
We organised a visit from Bedfordshire FA to raise awareness of disability sports. Students and staff were able to experience walking football, as well as blind football. We are thankful to Bedfordshire FA for providing the equipment for this experience and awareness activity.
