Marketing, Tourism and Hospitality employability
Practitioner and transferable skills
Live briefs from businesses set and assessed
The newly approved Portfolio, contains practice elements, industry input into the design and industry experts delivering guest lectures. Last year, a former marketing director of London Luton Airport worked with both our undergraduates and postgraduate students.
Presentation skills developed
Advertising focuses particularly on developing 'pitching' skills in order to make presentations more persuasive (in order to convince potential clients of their campaign ideas). Using live briefs from industry organisations such as Young Creatives Network (YCN)
Personal and professional development
Your personal and professional development is central to becoming a graduate. In the Marketing Tourism and Hospitality, we work with our Careers and Employability Service in guiding you. An entire unit in Level 5 is devoted to helping you and to customising your CV for jobs/internships/placements.
The final year contains Practice Weeks the Future, aimed at transitioning you from a student to a graduate ready for employment.
Guest speakers last year included Linslade and Leighton Buzzard Council on how they use events to generate tourism and regenerate the area. We also take students on field trips to locations such as Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in London. This trip demonstrates regeneration around the park, including the facilities and docklands.
Professional recognition and endorsement
CIM and CIPR approved programmes
The professional bodies associated with the industry endorse many of our courses. The Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM), the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) and the Association for Tourism in Higher Education (ATHE), all recognise our courses.
We frequently have guest lectures from industry practitioners including Bugatti, Lamborghini, the charity PLAN UK and a public relations practitioner from Burston Marsteller who came to speak to our third year students.
