Steel Charitable Trust Bursary

Attention: Second year undergraduates entering third year

If you are a full-time second year undergraduate 'home' student entering your third year in September 2018, and have lived in Bedfordshire for three years or longer before coming to University, you can apply for a £1,500 bursary.

A limited number of £1500 awards are available.  

To be considered for a bursary, you must have a record of academic excellence; succeeding against adversity and be in need of funding in order to continue your studies.

  • Resident in Bedfordshire for at least three years prior to starting University, i.e since August 2013
  • Excellent academic record, i.e. preponderance of A's and B's
  • Present a strong financial case for support in order to continue to succeed academically
  • Your personal statement is required to spell out the difference the award would make to you
  • Should have applied for all funding available
Documents required include
  • Student Finance England funding paperwork (17/18 or 18/19)
  • Student Finance England breakdown letter
  • Parents/Sponsor's P60 if under 25 years of age
  • Partner's/Sponsor's P60 if over 25 years of age
  • HMRC Tax Credit notification if appropriate
  • Evidence of any Benefits received
  • NHS students need to include their NHS bursary letter

Foundation Year Integrated Degree Bursary 2017/18 - £500

All full-time, new UK students (or those EU students that are UK domiciled) undertaking a degree with Foundation Year in 2017 will be eligible to receive a Foundation Year Bursary, worth £500.

This is a bursary for those undertaking the Foundation Year as part of an integrated four-year degree

The bursary is a cash bursary and will be delivered via instalments throughout the academic year 2017/18.

The Foundation Year Degree Bursary is worth £500 made up of two instalments paid over one year.

The bursary can be used for all essential materials and living costs to ensure that you have an excellent student experience.

You will not be eligible for the bursary if you subsequently interrupt your course to a later academic year.

How do I apply for the Foundation Year Integrated Degree Bursary?

Students do not need to apply for this bursary – it will be awarded automatically if students meet the eligibility criteria. Students will be notified via email.

Full eligibility criteria

Foundation Year Degree Bursary is only available to UK/EU (UK domiciled) students who are not on an NHS-funded course.

Applicants must be on, or have applied for, a full time integrated four year degree with a foundation year.

Applicants must be a new entrant student to the University of Bedfordshire for the 2017/18 academic year.

Applicants must meet the normal course entry requirements.

Welcome Package

The University of Bedfordshire Welcome Package is one of the most flexible support packages of all British universities that gives students choice about how they choose to spend their money, whether it be on identified additional course costs, extra curricula activities on campus.

Students can also choose to use their welcome package to pay their deposit towards a Go Global overseas trip

Your Beds Money Card

The Welcome Package is worth £450 in total over three years, eligible students will receive £300 'Your Beds Money credit' to spend at John Smith's bookshop on books, additional course materials*, or a range of other services on University of Bedfordshire campuses.**

Students will also receive £50 print credit in the first, second and third year.

The Welcome Package is available to all new first year full time undergraduate UK and EU students domiciled in the UK who pay the maximum tuition fee for a BA/BSc course.

Full-time undergraduate NHS students are also eligible for the Welcome Package provided they are studying a three year BSc degree.

Students will automatically receive their ‘Your Beds Money Card’ at registration and do not need to apply for the welcome package.

*Applicants will be notified of any additional course costs prior to registration, most of which can be purchased with your ‘Your Beds Money Card’.

**The University is extending the use of the ‘Your Beds Money Card’ to be used on a range of University services including: Go Global deposit and Aspire Gym membership.

+The print credit and Your Beds Money Card will only be awarded provided the University is aware who is paying the  tuition fees e.g. Student Finance.

NOW CLOSED - General Bursary Fund 2017/18

The General Bursary fund is open to all current University of Bedfordshire full time UK and EU undergraduate students in any year of study and Foundation students on an integrated four year degree. The bursary amount is £350 and there are 25 bursaries available.

This bursary is designed to assist students financially to support their progression at University. Evidence of academic progression and potential to achieve will also be taken into consideration.

To apply, please complete the application form - PDF 400.1 KB including a Personal Statement of your financial need explaining how this award would help you continue with your studies. Please also complete the Financial Assessment section of the form, and submit with all the documents listed on the front of the application.

We require:

  • Three months up to date, consecutive bank statements for all accounts held, with annotations for amounts over £100 (including partners as applicable).
  • Student Finance England / NHS funding notification.
  • Signed tenancy agreement detailing name, rent and address.
  • Evidence of any income and benefits received (including partners as applicable).
  • Evidence of living costs as applicable (Council Tax, childcare, travel etc).

All supporting evidence must be handed in at the same time as your application, or the application will be void.

Applications will be considered by a panel following the above closing date; all decisions of the panel are final. No applications or evidence received after this date will be considered.

Sports Scholarships

Sports Scholarships are available for students who have a record of performance in sport and who aspire to train and compete at the highest levels.

Bedfordshire Police Studentship Scheme

The Bedfordshire Police Service has studentships available to all University of Bedfordshire applicants who have a confirmed offer to commence studies in the academic year 2017-18 and who have been resident in Bedfordshire since 1 May 2016.

Postgraduate High Achiever Scholarship 2017

The Postgraduate High Achiever Scholarship is for third year undergraduates at the University of Bedfordshire planning to progress to full-time postgraduate study at the University.

The Postgraduate High Achiever Scholarship offers a 50% fee waiver for UK/EU students who go straight onto a full-time Master’s degree with us in September 2017*.

*Excludes PGCE & MBA

Care Leavers Bursary

The Care Leavers Bursary is available to students who are "open to care" and supported by their local authority leaving care service.

Additional support for students

The University also offers practical support to students who get into financial difficulties.
