Where do we get your personal information from?

We collect the vast majority of the information we use directly from you, through appointments and   application process you have had with our Student Support advisers. However, for the purpose of this application, we may need you to provide additional information.

What information do we collect about you?

  • Your name and contact details
  • Your student number
  • Medical information (where applicable) including information about any disabilities or health conditions you have.
  • Evidence of disability and receipts for diagnostic tests
  • Bank statements
  • Payslips
  • Tenancy agreement
  • Council Tax letter
  • SFE Finance assessment schedule
  • Childcare/dependants’ grant/SFE allowance notification
  • Evidence of minimised debts
  • Evidence of benefits
  • Any other supporting evidence depending on individual circumstances

Why do we collect this information?

In order for us to conduct a proper assessment, and determine whether you are eligible for financial support.

This is a part of our official duties as a University, as well as being a task we undertake in the public interest (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(e)). We want to ensure we provide unemployment and disability support for our students who have been affected by the coronavirus pandemic, and for this purpose, we may need to collect sensitive information from you, such as health or disability data (UK GDPR Article 9(2)(b), supplemented by the Data Protection Act 2018, Schedule 1 Part 1).

How will your information be used?

The information you provide us with in your application will only be used for the purpose of assessing your eligibility for this fund.

Who is your information shared with?

The information you provide will be stored and processed by the Student Money Advice team and Student Support department.  Applications will be uploaded to the SiD Online system so will be available to the SiD team.  Statistical information may be provided to the Office for Students (OfS) to show how the funds they have been allocated to the University have been spent.

How long will the information be held?

The information from your application will be held on file for the duration of your studies + 6 years.

Your rights

Data Protection Law grants you various rights in relation to how we use your data, including a right to know how we are using it, a right to be given a copy of it, and a right to object to how we are using it. However, these rights vary depending on the circumstances.
