In the last twelve months the University's carbon emissions have dropped by around 630 tonnes, compared with the previous twelve month period. The reduction in carbon emissions was assissted by an investment in a combined heat and power plant at the University's Bedford campus.

In 2008/9 the University emitted around 7,500 tonnes of carbon dioxide into the earth's atmosphere.

This has now been reduced to just under 5,500 tonnes.

The 2,000 tonne reduction in  carbon emissions is partly as a result of the University’s year on year investment in and instillation of low carbon technologies such as LED lighting and highly efficient boilers.

To meet its carbon reduction target, the University needs to continue reducing its carbon emissions at a rate of around 500 tonnes per year until 2020.
