Luton Town FC former player and manager Mick Harford was the host of the University of Bedfordshire’s latest ‘An Evening With…’ public event, delving into his life and career in front of a sold-out audience.

Held at the University’s Luton campus on Thursday 8 February, ‘From Grassroots to Glory’ saw Mick share his memories of his career, as well as reflecting on Luton Town’s rise to the Premier League.

If you missed the event or want to relive it, you can watch it again on the University’s YouTube channel.

Mick was quizzed by a panel made up of Media, Marketing & PR student Fleur O’Brien, Journalism student Amia Clarke, Radio & Audio alumni Rob Clark, alongside Jon Boyle, Senior Lecturer in Communications. The panel guided Mick through his career journey and chaired a Q&A session involving both the audience in the room and those watching online around the world.

Sharing his advice with the audience, Mick said: “It’s an honour and a privilege to be here at the University of Bedfordshire. My career and what I did in football is no different to what you do or what we’re all trying to achieve. We all have our goals, something to aim for, and that’s no different for a footballer. Whatever business you’re in, whatever you do in your life, my message is this: stay strong, be yourself and go for it.”

Mick shared fascinating tales of his time playing and managing with Luton Town, answering audience questions on his favourite players and memories, as well as lifting the lid on the Club’s player recruitment process.

After the event, Mick also joined attendees posing for selfies and signing autographs before mingling with the crowd over light refreshments.

This event is just one of the exciting benefits of the University’s Official Education Partnership with Luton Town, which sees a range of student career development opportunities. Last November, students from the School of Arts & Creative Industries were given the chance to report live from the press box at Kenilworth Road.
