2023/24 Entry

Applicants must be under 25 at the start of the course being followed and be currently open to and supported by a local authority leaving care service and fulfil the criteria stated in the Children (Leaving Care) Act 2000. Evidence in the form of an original letter is required from your local authority confirming your eligibility.

  • To find out about payment options please see the payment details section.
  • Applicants will be awarded the most valuable scholarship/bursary that they are eligible for.
  • Bursaries will be awarded only to students who are fully registered at the University for the 2023/24 academic year on a full-time BA/BSc degree. Foundation level students are not eligible to receive the Care Experience Bursary.
  • Applicants are expected to: a) apply for the maximum funding from Student Finance England; b) be a Home student normally resident in the UK.
  • Successful students must maintain an appropriate standard of behaviour throughout their course of study at the University of Bedfordshire. If a recipient does not meet the appropriate standard of behaviour and the bursary is withdrawn from that individual it will not be offered to another student from that cohort.
  • Students may be required on occasion to represent the student body and assist the University to publicise its activities and work with the University in promoting its successes and seeking other financial support.
  • Bursary recipients may be invited to attend university events promoting the value of scholarships/bursaries and are expected to attend. The University may decide to publicise the names of those who receive scholarships or advise a specific donor of the successful recipients of a particular award.
  • The University reserves the right to withhold instalments if scholarship/bursary holders withdraw, defer, not attend or otherwise do not progress satisfactorily with their studies.
  • Bursary holders must remain in good financial standing with the University, and instalments will not be paid out if a student has a sanction in place for non-payment of tuition fees.
  • The University may also seek to reclaim monies paid where progress is not satisfactory.
  • The Vice Chancellor will make any judgements required regarding the granting of bursaries and scholarships on an exceptional basis to students who claim to have mitigating circumstances. Requests should be sent to the Senior Student Money Advisor in the first instance.

Closing date of this Bursary is 5th July 2024.
