Mark Layzell
Technician/Demonstrator
In Memoriam
It is with great sadness that we share the news, that Mark Layzell, one of our Creative Industry Technicians, has sadly passed away. Mark was a much-loved member of our university community. He was known for his unwavering willingness to go the extra mile to help anyone in need. His kind nature and warmth were a comfort to many, extending far beyond his work at the University. We will miss him dearly.
Many staff members have known Mark for over 25 years, during which time they have shared the journey of being both students and colleagues. Throughout the years, Mark’s unique personality, charm, and humour have left a lasting impression on everyone around him. He had an incredible ability to connect with people — whether it was offering a supportive word to a colleague or putting students at ease with his quick wit and warm smile.
Mark brought lightness to even the busiest of days, and his sense of humour was a unifying force that created a positive atmosphere across the university. He wasn’t just a valued member of staff; he was a friend, a confidant, and a source of encouragement for many. His genuine care for others, combined with his approachable and uplifting nature, helped build a strong sense of community that will be deeply missed but long remembered.
