Talitha Collinson

Current role

I am currently a Teaching Assistant but will be starting Teacher Training in September 2020, with Premier Pathways.

How my course benefited me

The course of Early Years Education benefited me because I knew about the importance of the curriculum, inclusion and being creative, which has taken me a long way. From the experience and knowledge gained from the course, I got a job quite easily afterwards. As well as working in primary schools, I have also ventured to Italy and studied Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL). I taught adults while training and after qualifying, taught teenagers. It was brilliant! However, I feel right now my place is with teaching children.

Campus life

Living on campus in the first year was great! There were so many events that were put on and so you meet a lot of people. I got on well with my flat mates and we went to socials together. Nevertheless, freshers is the ultimate experience where you meet all kinds of people and it is a lot of fun. I found that you could get everything you needed on campus, a huge library and support where needed. Plus, the town is not too far either to get the essential food items or you can get a bus that runs from the campus.

What I most enjoyed about my degree and studying at the University of Bedfordshire

What I most enjoyed about my degree was the amount of support and love the lecturers had for the area of Early Years. They gave excellent feedback to help me improve, recommended books and would always help whenever they could with the general things too. I also made such good friends for life from my course, who I see today. After my first year, I moved into a house with a few friends from my course and had a great time studying and going out with them to unwind!

A memorable moment/s

I have many memorable moments but one I will share is the foam party! If they put it on again, GO!! It is so much fun.

My future aspirations

My future career goals/aspirations are to qualify as a primary school teacher here in the UK, get more experience in the role and enjoy it! Then eventually, when the time is right, I would like to teach in another country again, but I will see!

My top tips for current students

Tips to current students would be to read read read! Be a bookworm! It will help you through assignments and make things easier for when it comes to dissertation time. However, be sure to have fun, socialise and relax too! It is about getting the right balance of study and social activities.
