Senior Lecturer in Mental Health Nursing, Mental Health Practice Education Lead

Kaidu Mustapha-SalihoI am a Mental Health Nurse and qualified teacher, with both qualifications registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council in the United Kingdom.

As a clinician, I have worked in both community mental health teams (Mental Health Crisis Nurse and Accident and Emergency Liaison Nurse) and in-patient mental health services nursing working age adults with acute mental health problems.

This experience and clinical interests, together with my academic background in mental health promotion and public health, have subsequently influenced my teaching. Assessments in mental health, suicide prevention and management of self-harm underpin my teaching and I apply mental health promotion approaches in practice settings.

I enjoy teaching mental health sessions to postgraduate students and pre-registration students in other in fields of practice.

I am passionate about mental health practice education and maintain close links with placements supporting practice learning, which accounting for about 50% of my role as Mental Health Practice Education Lead.

I liaise with our local Mental Health NHS Trust and private and voluntary organisation in enhancing student experience in mental health practice learning environments.
