Dr Louisa Vincini

Lecturer in Forensic Sciences
I joined the Department of Life Sciences in 2010 from The Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen, where, upon completion of my PhD, I was a researcher in DNA nanotechnology.
Prior to this I was employed as Crime Scene DNA Analyst for LGC Forensics working on volume crime casework for police forces nationwide.
I completed an MSc in Forensic Science at London South Bank University following a BSc in Molecular Biology and Genetics at Royal Holloway, University of London.
Qualifications
- BSc Molecular Biology and Genetics, Holloway College, University of London
- MSc Forensic Science, London South Bank University
- PhD, The Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen
Teaching Expertise
I teach students within each year studying the BSc Forensic Science course. My main interests lie in Forensic Biology, Molecular Biology and Analytical techniques applied to Forensic Science.
Research Interests
My research focuses on the identification of body fluids most commonly encountered at crime scenes.
I am interested in distinguishing between different cell types which can be found within these fluids, using gene or protein expression as biomarkers. Looking at cell type specific biomarkers enables scientists to identify the source of DNA profile from the smallest of samples which is often imperative to a criminal case.
