Dr Saadye Ali

Lecturer in Adult Nursing

I joined the University in February 2020 as a Lecturer in Adult Nursing, where I lead and teach on the Life Health and Social Sciences Unit for the Nursing with Registration MSc course. I also contribute to other undergraduate and postgraduate modules across the University.  My clinical background is in sexual and reproductive health and emergency nursing.

I am research active, researching a range of public health topics. My interests are in different forms of violence against women and girls, in particular honour-based violence and forced marriage, domestic and sexual violence. Drawing from an intersectional lens, my work looks at ways in which gender, ethnicity and health impact on how Black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) groups experience forms of violence.

I am experienced in qualitative research methodology, specifically, creating and using participatory methods with young people from disadvantaged communities. My doctorate examined how approaches aimed at preventing female genital mutilation can be improved and developed using participatory methods with second-generation young people in the UK.
