Richard Sargent

Senior Lecturer for Clinical Skills and Simulation

Richard Sargent

I am an experienced and committed Registered Operating Department Practitioner having qualified at St Thomas’s Hospital London in 1992. I consolidated my training and professional development at a number of NHS Trusts, finally settling at Bucks Healthcare NHS Trust (BHT). My professional practice and experiences fall within the emergency care setting and include; a regional burns centre, orthopaedic trauma, spinal injuries centre, plastic trauma, reconstructive plastic surgery and surgical/medical emergencies within a busy district general hospital. My role developed further, culminating in my becoming a practice educator and later deputy theatre manager.

For the last four years of my NHS career, I was the Simulation Education Facilitator for the Post Graduate Education Centre for BHT. During my tenure I developed the Simulation service to become a progressive and forward educational establishment for clinicians as part of the Oxford Deanery for a variety of specialities increasing the educational portfolio from three to twentyeight separate simulation courses in that period.

Teaching Role

My primary responsibilities now focus on the development and management of the three clinical skills suites based at the Luton, Aylesbury and Bedford campuses and responsible for the facilitation and delivery of clinical skills for all aspects of the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences.
