Guides for researchers and young people
“People are always more important than data.” (Youth advisor on Learning Together Resource development)
Understanding children and young people’s perspectives on making child sexual abuse research safe, comfortable and meaningful
An important part of the Learning Together project was engaging young survivors and other young research participants to explore principles supporting positive child and youth engagement in CSA research. As part of this work we developed two accessible guides:
- A guide for young people to help them decide if they want to take part in research about sexual abuse or other topics that might be considered ‘sensitive'.
- Download the young people's guide (web version) [PDF]
- Download the the young people's guide (print version) [PDF]
- A guide for researchers that outlines some key things young people want researchers to think about and do, to keep children and young people’s interests and wellbeing at the heart of their approach when undertaking research.

- Download the researches's guide (print version) [PDF]
*Versions of these guides are also available in Albanian and Brazilian Portuguese. Please contact us if you are interested in having them translated into other languages.
These resources have been co-developed with young people in Albania and the UK. This included young people supported by the organization Different & Equal in Albania, and members of the Safer Young Lives Research Centre’s Young Researchers Advisory Panel. Drafts of these resources were also reviewed by youth advisors from Australia, Brazil, Colombia, Uganda and elsewhere in the UK. A HUGE thank you to all of the young people involved in this work.
These resources were developed in partnership with the following:
Young experts and professional collaborators: Different and Equal, Albania; YRAP, UK
Young expert reviewers: CONNECT Centre UCLAN, UK; Imagina, Colombia; NAPCAN Youth Speak Out, Australia; Serenas, Brazil; SERICC, UK; Uganda Youth Development Link (UYDEL)
