Bedford campus parking and transport for students
Parking at the University of Bedfordshire's Bedford campus is limited so we strongly advise you consider alternatives - not only will you be fitter but you'll avoid the expense of buying and running a car.
Bedford has an extensive cycle-track network and, being fairly flat, is extremely easy to get around by bike. Sheltered bike racks have been installed at Bedford campus, where shower and changing facilities and lockers are also provided.
The Bedford campus has two main car parks with marked bays and an overspill car park.
Students and staff will have two options to park on campus. They can opt into the parking-permit scheme or choose to use the pay-to-park option, tariffs for which are below:
- 1.5 hours, 70p
- Up to 3 hours, £1
- Up to 4 hours, £1.50
- Up to 5 hours, £2.50
- Day ticket (7am–11pm), £6
- Overnight (11pm–7am), £6
Tariff is applicable 24/7, 365 days a year.
Where there is a University-agreed promotional event or recruitment event such as an open day, the
daily tariff charges will be suspended and notices will be posted to advise users accordingly.
Student permit scheme
Students who hold a valid student registration are able to request a monthly permit to park at
£10 per month. The permit will be available via monthly Direct Debit subscription. Subscriptions may be cancelled up to the 21st of each month but no refunds will be available for part-months not used.
A limited number of season permits are available. To apply for a season permit, please email Facilities and Estates carparking@beds.ac.uk
Access for disabled students
The University of Bedfordshire recognises our responsibility to ensure that facilities are appropriate and accessible for all students.
Drivers who are blue badge holders are entitled to free annual car permits.
You may know someone with whom you could share the journey to and from campus, particularly if you live near to each other off campus. If you don't know of anyone at the moment, it's probably worth asking around or posting an enquiry. Even sharing a journey some of the time will help spread the cost of running and parking a car.
Bedford is lucky to have a strong network of public transport providers. Several Stagecoach bus routes run along the A4280 (Goldington Road) to Polhill Avenue - a journey of around 15 minutes.
There are frequent trains, operated by Thameslink, that go to Bedford from London St Pancras International station - journey time about 50 minutes. Going south, Thameslink crosses London and continues on to Brighton.
East Midlands Railway (EMR) trains also run from London St Pancras International - journey time about 40 minutes. There are direct trains on this route to/from Leicester, Derby, Nottingham and Sheffield.
There is also a London Northwestern Railway branch line between Bedford town centre and Milton Keynes/Bletchley, opening up services to/from the West Midlands, Liverpool and Birmingham.
