Eduroam

How do I use eduroam?

The first thing to do is check that you can connect to your institution’s eduroam service. Each institution should provide instructions on how to configure your Wi-Fi compatible laptop or mobile device.

The configuration instructions available here are for University of Bedfordshire staff, students and research students.

Once configured, your device should be able to connect to any other member institution’s eduroam service via a detected Wi-Fi network.

Users of eduroam must agree to abide by the University's Network Acceptable Use policy and the eduroam(UK) policy

What do I need?

There are far too many Wi-Fi compatible devices to mention them all here. However, we can give information on the most popular operating systems (see left-hand menu).

Your device must be capable of:

  • IEEE 802.1X (Enterprise standard 802.1x authentication) using PEAP and MSCHAPV2
  • WPA2 wireless encryption

If you’re not sure, follow the instructions for your OS:

You can also download PDF versions of each guide here:

Further information about eduroam is available from the Eduroam Federation

What are my eduroam credentials?

  • For staff, your username is your usual University network username. This is typically first initial and surname. Follow this with your institution’s domain (e.g. jbloggs@beds.ac.uk or mjones01@beds.ac.uk)
  • For students, your username is your student number followed by your institution’s domain (e.g. XXXXXXXX@beds.ac.uk)
  • Your password is your usual network password

What if I can't connect to eduroam?

Before you do anything else, check that you are entering the correct Username and password.

If you are, then consider deleting or forgetting the eduroam connection on your device (see the instructions for each device in the left menu).

As a last resort, you can also try changing your University network password by visiting pwd.beds.ac.uk, then wait five minutes after making the change and then try to login to eduroam again.

If you still can’t connect:

  • Students should contact the Student Information Desk (SiD).
