Sue Malherbe

Senior Lecturer

sue-malherbe

I joined the University in 2005. I have a strong commitment to equal opportunities and one of the reasons I enjoy working at the University is the diversity of our student group in terms of age, ethnicity, beliefs, backgrounds, life experiences and educational achievement. I firmly believe that this diversity benefits all students wanting to follow a career in the Human Services.

I have always had an interest in health and social care and working with vulnerable groups. I qualified as a Registered Nurse in 1990 having done my training at St Mary’s Hospital in London. I worked for a number of years as a nurse in a variety of settings in the UK, as well as in the USA and South Africa. In the mid ‘90s I did further Intensive Care nurse training at Cedars-Sinai hospital in Los Angeles.

The areas I am particularly interested in are welfare provision, disability and mental health/illness. I have carried out research in the area of Direct Payments for disabled and older people.
