The University of Bedfordshire has been supporting systemic training and research programmes for over fifteen years. We used to be the approving partner for KCC and took over some of its programmes and are proud to be developing its theoretical and practical traditions and connections to other systemic institutes around the world. We are proud to be located within the Institute of Applied Social Research which undertakes important and award winning research in the areas of child sexual exploitation, sex trafficking, systemic practice in social work settings, alcohol and substance use.
The Professional Doctorate in Systemic Practice is often described as being one of the jewels in the crown of the University and of the systemic community. MSc by Research is a university wide programme. We have a few spaces for systemic practitioners keen to undertake first person practitioner research in the areas of organisational practice, leadership, therapy, training, supervision and coaching. The Systemic Postgraduate Research Conference was inaugurated by the two systemic practice doctorates in the UK, ours at the University of Bedfordshire and that of the Tavistock and Postman NHS Trust. Systemic Practice and Autism Conference is an important initiative by the University of Bedfordshire in promoting awareness and practice development on the importance of systemic ideas in the fields of therapy and organisational life and policy. We have a strong core of staff and doctoral students who research this area of life experience, produce publications and conference presentations. In addition, we hold a a university wide Autism and Research Forum with colleagues from health and psychology who are also researching in this area. You can find photos, videos and presentations from Dr Peter Lang's Festschrift and Honorary Doctorate which was awarded by the University of Bedfordshire for contributions to the systemic community, and also from the Day of Performing Professor John Shotter. John Shotter and Peter Lang played a central role in establishing the Professional Doctorate in Systemic Practice.
Murmurations: Journal of Transformative Systemic Practice is an innovation by systemic practitioner researchers connected to the Professional Doctorate in Systemic Practice to ensure there is a high quality, peer-reviewed journal which specialises in systemic and relationally reflexive practitioner research. It is a green open access journal with strong and well-connected Editorial and International Advisory Boards. The journal is pleased to be supported by the Institute of Applied Social Research at the University of Bedfordshire, the Friends of KCC and Everything is Connected Press.
