About Me
Valencia Kabeya is a radiographer with a masters in Public Health who studied a PhD to further her knowledge and understanding of health inequalities experienced by Black African women in the area of genetic testing.
The overall aim of the PhD was to develop and assess the feasibility, acceptability and fidelity of a Health Party intervention in increasing knowledge, awareness and uptake of genetic testing for breast and ovarian cancer amongst Black African women in Luton. The secondary outcome included assessing the changes in knowledge, awareness and uptake of genetic testing prior and post the intervention. A mixed method approach, conducting 3 dinsrinct studies (A systematic review, a qualitative study and a feasibility study) were used to fulfill the overall aim of this study.
The abstract of the feasibility study was accepted and presented as a Poster at the 12th European Public Health conference held in 2019 in Marseilles. The abstract of the systematic review was selected and orally presented at the 16th World Congress on Public Health 2020. The abstract of the qualitative study was also selected to be presented orally at the 14th European Public Health Conference in Dublin in November 2021.
