Anthony Greenbank

Senior Lecturer in Film and Television Production

Anthony Greenbank

I have been producing, writing and directing in the television industry for several years. I have worked with companies such as the BBC, ITV and Sky.

My production experience spans a variety of genres including comedy, chat shows, music programming, documentaries, sports and children's TV.

I help oversee the University’s student-run TV station, BedsTV and am the course co-ordinator for the following degree programmes:

  • BA (Hons) Television Production
  • BA (Hons) Broadcast TV and Radio
  • BA (Hons) Sports TV and Radio
  • MA Television Production

I am a member of the Royal Television Society and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

  • PGCTLHE, University of Winchester
  • MA Ancient History, University of Manchester / British School of Rome
  • BA (Hons) Ancient History and Archaeology, University of Manchester

I spent several years in the television industry working as a researcher, producer, writer and director across a variety of genres. I began my career on breakfast TV for Channel 4 before moving onto factual programming and documentaries including Time Team (Channel 4) and the award-nominated series The History of Light Entertainment (BBC 2).

Many of my credits were in ‘shiny floor’ studio television including Top of the Pops (BBC 1), The Q Awards and The Kerrang! Awards (Channel 4) and RI:SE (Channel 4). I have been lucky enough to work on multi-award-winning programmes such as Brainiac (Sky 1) and Kylie (ITV): a documentary with Kylie Minogue.

I have also worked as a writer on comedy projects such as Nuts TV, Today on 3 Live and The Nightly Show and I have spent time working in TV and radio programme development. During my time in the industry, I worked with and wrote for presenters and comedians such as Cat Deeley, Richard Bacon, Liz Bonnin, Edith Bowman, Iain Lee, Christine Lampard, Colin Murray and Olivia Lee.

Since working in higher education, I have taught at a number of universities across a variety of undergraduate and postgraduate units. I currently teach on modules focussing on multi-camera studio production, location camera and sound, post-production, producing and programme development and employability in the TV industry.

I have supervised post-graduate research projects in the field of television production and reception. I have also conducted my own research into Virtual Learning Environments and how teaching spaces can affect student learning and have contributed my findings to the University of Bedfordshire’s annual staff conference. In recent years have written two new courses for the University which were successfully approved: MA Television Production and BA Sports TV and Radio.

I have helped co-ordinate community projects for The Culture Trust in Luton, the NHS and the University’s Sustainability Forum.

I have also been a part of activity-based outreach events with local schools and community groups.
