Our courses will give you the opportunity to develop your talents as a professional or creative writer, communicator, journalist, broadcaster as well as the academic and professional experience for careers in research, production or education.
The programmes are designed to develop practical, professional skills as well as critical thinking and research skills.
The School provides a dynamic and collaborative environment in which tomorrow’s journalists, authors, scriptwriters, presenters and future academics or teachers will work alongside each other.
Our staff are research active academics and former and current experienced professionals with successful careers in the creative industries including broadcast, print and online journalists, radio producers, directors and published novelists.
Through a combination of industry experience and academic research they will provide you with the latest information, skills and techniques and knowledge to help you break into this competitive industry.
You will also get expert advice from visiting speakers who offer masterclasses and contribute to our careers days, as well as attend industry networking events.
The creative industries are collaborative; you will need work with other people. Our courses reflect this in your day-to-day unit work giving you plenty of extra-curricular activities to be involved in. There's our radio station and TV channel for projects (for example presenting), performing your creative writing at open mic nights, curating or running film festivals, and helping to run international conferences.
You will work on projects and assignments with students from related courses giving you experience of working in a creative team.
And if you love to travel and learn about other cultures then take advantage of our Go Global travel programme. Go Global offers Home and EU students the chance to take part in a cultural exchange programme with one of our international partner universities.
