Radio is listened to by around 90% of the UK population each week, and audio production is an increasingly in-demand skill, thanks to the increase of use of audio content on websites, podcasts and smart-speakers. This is why we teach radio across a number of Media & Journalism courses.
At the University of Bedfordshire we teach you how to make professional quality audio, using industry standard software and equipment. We assess you on the quality and immediacy of production, working to deadlines so you can graduate as a confident professional. Recent graduates have gone on to find work in both commercial and BBC radio, and some of our former students are now industry leaders in the fields of presenting, producing and managing radio stations.

Radio Staff
Our unique Radio & Audio BA Hons offers students a chance to spend three years working with radio, podcast and audio production, and gaining a wide knowledge of radio history and practice though guided research and practical skills training.
The course offers a blend of guidance and tutoring, utilising the 20+ years of radio teaching experience at Bedfordshire, the radio studio-teaching facilities, and RadioLaB 97.1fm. We also run field trips to see professional radio & audio setups in action. If you want to immerse yourself in audio production, we strongly recommend this course.
Alternatively, you also have the option of taking radio-based units as part of other University of Bedfordshire courses too.
RadioLaB 97.1FM is our award-winning, Ofcom licensed, Community Radio station, broadcasting online and on FM. Many of our students choose to make programmes in our state-of-the-art RadioLaB studios alongside their studies, putting their learning into practice and working with students and young people from around Luton.
Because RadioLaB is student-led, there are numerous opportunities to work and lead on a large variety of audio roles and tasks.
Adding the experience of volunteering at RadioLaB to your CV will make it stand out, showing potential employers your good communication skills, confidence and sense of community.
