Our Research

Research in the School of Psychology is largely applied, conducting original studies that address real world problems. Our mission is to advance knowledge that makes a positive difference to our local, national and international communities, particularly their most disadvantaged and vulnerable members.

We apply our expertise in developing innovative interventions for those in need and aim to expand our base of evidence. We approach concepts and methods critically and we aim to advance a psychological discipline that puts reflection, openness, and human welfare at its centre. We aim to develop a new generation of researchers and research-informed practitioners driven by healthy ambition and the desire to make a difference.

You can find more details about our research activity by looking at the profiles of our staff members and under the links themes and projects. We have collaborated with many universities, governmental agencies, and third sector organisations in the UK and abroad. We have attracted significant funding from prestigious bodies such as the Big Lottery Fund, the British Academy, and the National Institute for Health Research.
