What did you enjoy the most during your course?

What I enjoyed the most was the cooperation between students from different countries, mentality and age, which showed in the flow of the sessions and the results. Additionally, the lecturers were very helpful. When they identified weaknesses, they went above and beyond to empower students and give them guidance on how to improve.

What were the most important skills you developed during your course and how did these help you in your career?

During my course, I acquired strong research skills, not only in electronic databases (Westlaw, Lexis) but also through books and sources of academic commentary, paying attention to detail and understanding the important points of a legal problem. For example, when we were assigned a case scenario, I could identify the issue and provide solutions and advice to a client. Last but not least, I developed strong communication and collaboration skills because, as part of our course, we had to work in groups and prepare materials, presentations and assignments.

Did you participate in any extra-curricular activities during your studies at Bedfordshire?

I took a Spanish language course. I also used the gym as the University offered a very broad range of sports classes and activities for students.

Why did you choose the University of Bedfordshire?

I believe the University of Bedfordshire offers value to students as staff and lecturers are very friendly and always willing to listen to your concerns, problems and thoughts, providing you with guidance, advice and assistance.

What is a typical day at work?

Firstly, I read all my emails and correspondence and prioritise pending work assigned by my manager. Then I start working on what is pending, in communication with my manager. Depending on the work, I might come up with a draft, which will be subject to review from the senior management team. I may also have conference calls during the day or meetings with clients, another department of the firm or the local authorities, so I’d need to prepare thoroughly before attending. There are also times when I may need to attend court for filing of court applications or appearances before the district courts.

What would be your advice to students starting their course now?

Never give up and study hard. There may be hard times but in the end it is all worth it.

What are your future career plans?

To become a manager in five years’ time.
