Working Thesis Title

Dynamic postural stability in boxers and differences between levels of performer.

Abstract

Due to the nature of boxing, athletes are required to regularly recover from an unstable position cause by the receipt of an impact or delivery of a strike.

The mechanism behind this recovery is dynamic postural stability (DPS). Primarily DPS has been assessed through clinical tests such as the dynamic postural stability index as opposed to tests which aim to replicate the impacts sustained in sport.

The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between DPS and boxing performance; it also aims to investigate the validity of an impact based DPS test via a comparison to a known DPS test.

Research Questions

Does the dynamic postural stability of a boxing athlete have a relationship to their level of performance?

About Me

Following my completion of a BSc (Hons) in strength and conditioning at the University of Bedfordshire in 2019 and working in various areas throughout my degree I found an interest in research which has led me to enroll on a MSc by research.

My principle interests are focused on how biomechanics can be practically applied to affect sports performance with a keen interest in boxing. I am also a college lecturer with an interest in teaching related research.
