Inclusive

Bedfordshire Curriculum Framework

The University of Bedfordshire is a Widening Participation institution, supporting students from a wide variety of socio-economic, cultural and educational backgrounds. Providing an inclusive learning environment means that all our students will be given an equal opportunity to succeed, irrespective of their background or demographic characteristics.

The University’s curriculum framework has been developed collaboratively to help staff and students understand the breadth and depth of what inclusive practice means within Higher Education and in this institution. Our framework adopts a broad definition of inclusivity; it moves away from a culture of reasonable adjustments for individual students, and instead considers the needs of a diverse student body.

The inclusive strand includes consideration of:

Inclusivity: the University’s EDI framework and mental health and well-being framework are used to ensure the inclusivity and diversity of the curriculum.

Accessibility: a Universal Design for Learning approach is used to ensure all students have an equal opportunity to succeed.

Personal development planning and reflection: students have structured opportunities for reflection within a process of development that allows them to internalise their experiences, develop resilience and make connections across boundaries.
