The Learning Development team support students to develop key academic skills (including writing, maths and study skills) through a range of open-access and targeted development opportunities.
The Learning Development team in partnership with Academic Liaison Librarians and Microsoft Office Trainers has produced to a repository of accessible open-access learning materials that cover a wide range of academic skills. These include:
Learning Development guides are available under a Creative Commons license so can be adopted by course teams for use in their teaching.
The Learning Development Team co-deliver the Study Hub service delivered out of the University libraries. Study Hub acts as a one-stop shop for students to support with writing, maths, study skills, researching and IT. The Learning Development Team specifically supports the development of writing, maths and study skills. Students can also request appointments with Learning Development Tutors directly via email: learningdevelopment@beds.ac.uk
Students who would benefit from additional academic skills developmental support will also be referred to the Learning Development team via Personal Academic Tutors and Student Support teams. Whenever we receive a referral, the Learning Development Team will contact students to offer an appointment with a Tutor.
The Academy's Learning Development team provide targeted academic skills initiatives to support student continuation and success. This could include delivering academic skills workshops, drop-ins and creating learning materials. Prioritised courses for the Learning Development to work with are agreed through liaison between Learning Development Faculty Partners with Heads of School.

The Student Experience Leaders scheme is delivered by the Academy for Learning and Teaching Excellence in partnership with the Students’ Union and key colleagues from across the University. Student Experience Leaders work in partnership with faculties and professional directorates to champion the student's voice and implement curricular and co-/extra-curricular projects, which will facilitate the enhancement of student success and satisfaction.
The scheme serves to:
Student Experience Leaders are a key contact for student Course Representatives along with other Students’ Union representatives. They collate feedback from representatives, identify trends and share this at faculty/department meetings. Student Experience Leaders then provide updates to representatives about feedback outcomes and developments.
Student Experience Leaders also work in partnership with academic staff to co-deliver projects that focus on enhancing student engagement and success and/or student satisfaction. In Academic Year 24/25 Student Experience Leader projects will be delivered in:
