At the University of Bedfordshire we have a strong vision for our Centre for Academic Partnerships (CAP).
We initiate, develop and sustain high-quality partnerships with regional, national and international organisations which reflect our own mission and values.
Through our partnerships, especially with schools and colleges, we widen participation and access to higher education enabling all young people to aspire to a university education
The University of Bedfordshire prides itself on its civic and community relations and the Centre for Academic Partnerships supports this through various initiatives.
A very important part of our work is Widening Participation - this is a government policy of making sure that everyone has an equal chance of going on to university, whatever their personal circumstances.
Our Access and Outreach Team is involved in working together with educators, families, communities and groups to encourage all learners to aspire to university, particularly people who are under-represented in higher education.
Our Arts and Culture Projects team partners with many regional, national and international cross-sector organisations to widen participation in the arts and enable current and budding artists in our communities to thrive. They also work across the University’s academic schools and professional departments to mobilise and share knowledge for the betterment and sustainable growth of the local creative and educational sectors.
Our Collaborative Projects team works with a number of sector-level and cross-sector partner organisations to promote higher education access. This includes working with Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEPs), charities, businesses, funders, local schools, and other further and higher educational institutions. They also help to build sustainable collaborative networks within the region and beyond. The aim of these networks is to support the development of reflective practice among access practitioners in order to contribute to research and policy analysis in the field of widening participation.
Sport at Beds brings together all sporting activities for students, colleagues and the community. Providing a wide variety of sport from recreational and competitive to gym and development.
CAP also develop and manage UK partnerships with colleges which deliver our courses and partner with schools, community organisations, and strategic bodies regionally and nationally.
