Bedfordshire second for Linguistics

Theo Maniski

Fri 8th June, 2012

The University of Bedfordshire’s Language and Linguistics courses has been ranked second – in the latest edition of the Complete University Guide (CUG) for student satisfaction.

Linguistics is the study of language and communication and the courses at Bedfordshire focus on how people use the English Language to express themselves in personal, professional and social contexts.

Theo Maniski, Head of the Language and Communication Department at the University of Bedfordshire’s Business School said: “This is a remarkable achievement, but the Linguistics courses are no strangers to the top end of the CUG’s student satisfaction measures.

“Bedfordshire is also recognised as one of the world-leading centres for research in Language Testing. The University’s Centre for Research in English Language Learning and Assessment (CRELLA) works in partnership with the University of Cambridge and the British Council”.

The Linguistics courses taught at the Luton campus have regularly featured at the top end of the CUG league tables in recent years. In 2010, Bedfordshire was ranked in joint 3rd place with York, and in 2011 climbed up to joint 2nd place with the University of Glasgow.

Mr Maniski added: “It is particularly rewarding to see the Department’s commitment to student-centred programmes recognised in the CUG league table once again. This encourages our undergraduates to produce high-quality work which results in very good degrees".
