THE University of Bedfordshire has signed an agreement to become the main sponsor of Luton Town Football Club’s academy for the next two seasons.
The partnership will see the University become the lead sponsor of 11 Luton Town Academy teams, ranging from under 9s to under 18s.
A key aim of the partnership is to promote access to higher education to the footballing youngsters, with the University’s Student Recruitment team planning to hold a special open day.
Head of youth operations at Luton Town FC, Matt Stannard, said: “This strengthens the link between ourselves at the University of Bedfordshire, with both parties able to draw on each other to offer expertise, advice and facilities.
“Our working relationship with the University has been fantastic and the mutual benefits for students and players are endless.
“This is an exciting time for the academy and, together with the University, we look forward to the success that this relationship can bring in strengthening our partnerships in Luton, Bedfordshire and beyond.”
Additional features of the agreement include corporate sponsorship, which will see the University of Bedfordshire brand across various Luton Town digital and print platforms, together with hoardings at the club’s Kenilworth Road ground.
Also incorporated into the agreement is a staff-sharing scheme, with 12 Bedfordshire students already taken on by the academy in a variety of roles on work experience, ranging from physiotherapy to sports science, together with an end-of-season University of Bedfordshire match on the Kenilworth Road pitch.
Commenting on the link-up between the two organisations, University of Bedfordshire Vice Chancellor Bill Rammell said: “The University of Bedfordshire and Luton Town Football Club have established a long and successful affiliation and I’m delighted we are continuing to work together.
“In recent years Bedfordshire students have benefited from work placements at the club, particularly in marketing and advertising roles, applying their studies to the world of work.
“This new agreement further strengthens our links, with the club and in the local Luton community, promoting the University and the great opportunities that higher education presents.”
