A University of Bedfordshire expert was among the panel which judged a category for this week’s BAFTA Craft Awards.

Kathryn Wolfe, Course coordinator Television Production and Senior Lecturer Media Performance was a jury member at the Awards, which honour the very best behind-the-scenes talent from television and new media from the past year.

The Ceremony took place on Sunday 27 April at The Brewery in the City of London and was hosted by Stephen Mangan star of C4’s Green Wing.

Kathryn was part of a jury selecting the winner of the Director Multi Camera category, of which nominees included Bridget Caldwell for The Funeral of Baroness Thatcher, Nikki Parsons for Strictly Come Dancing, and Steve Smith for The Graham Norton Show.

However the winner was Phil Heyes for The X Factor.

“Our jury role was to reduce the shortlist of nine multi camera directors to four nominations, and then a secret vote to choose the winner. It was tricky decide on a winner but great fun analysing and discussing the programmes,” said Kathryn.

“The X Factor entry was an incredible production and really deserved to win. The votes are a closely guarded secret and I wasn’t able to reveal that I’d been on the Jury until the evening of the Awards ceremony.”

Other jury members included top TV directors Ben Kellet (Mrs Brown’s Boys), Ian Lorimer (QI), Stephen Stewart (Ant & Dec’s Saturday Takeaway) and David Clews (Educating Essex). Kathryn is a former multi camera director and teaches multi camera directing as part of the Television Production course.
