Young artists and creative thinkers from across Luton are being called upon to design a bandstand for the town’s Wardown Park.

The competition, which is being organised and run under the auspices of the Rotary Youth Trust of Luton and Luton’s four rotary clubs, in conjunction with the University of Bedfordshire, is seeking the input of talented youngsters to create plans for a new bandstand.

All entrants will receive a ‘Certificate of Entry’ and the winning entrants will see aspects of each of their design acknowledged in the final design.

Entrants will be divided into categories determined by their age on the closing date, 1 December 2014 and a winner will be drawn from each category. Each winner will receive a prize for themselves as well as money for their school or college.

The competition is open to all up to the age of 22 in education or resident within the Borough of Luton at the 1st December 2014, the closing date for the competition.

Alan Corkhill, Chairman of the Bandstand Steering Committee, said: “We look forward to connecting with the young people of Luton; this exciting competition will unlock their creativity and inventive ideas. I would invite every school to enter and get involved with the Rotary Bandstand for Luton completion.”

The poster for the competition, part of which is shown above, was designed by staff and students from the Faculty of Creative Arts, Technologies & Science at the University.

Wardown Park, which was originally the gardens of Wardown House, was purchased by the town’s council almost 100 years ago. In 2005, a grant from the National Lottery led to a full-scale restoration of the park’s main features including renovations to the daisy chain wall and an exact replica of the drinks fountain from 1917 being installed.
