Radio Academy Chair Chris Burns will be a key note speaker at this year’s Community Media Conference hosted at the University of Bedfordshire.

Organised by the Community Media Association the Conference is on Saturday 12th September at the University’s Luton campus. Chris Burns has recently become the chair of the Radio Academy and is keen that the Academy reaches all areas of audio media. Chris will update Conference with the latest developments at the Academy and news of the new look Radio Festival and awards.

Terry Lee oversees the University’s community radio station ‘Radio LaB’, and is also a Director of the Community Media Association. He believes the conference is being hosted in the ideal location:

“Luton is a hub of community media activity, with three Ofcom Licensed radio stations, and many other local radio, TV, and web-based organisations. With fantastic transport links by road, train and plane I suspect this event will be well attended by groups from all over the UK too. I look forward to welcoming all delegates to the University, and am sure they will leave feeling educated and informed."

CMA Chair Dom Chambers said: “Chris is an inspirational person and I am delighted she will be addressing our conference. She is leading the Radio Academy as an organisation with a much greater understanding of radio with social impact beyond entertainment and information.”

The theme of this year's conference is "Inspiring Through Success”, and will showcase and share examples of best practice from all community media practitioners whether radio, local television, or online. There will also be talks about the BBC’s role in community media, the small-scale DAB trial, local TV, and hyperlocal journalism.

'Early-bird’ tickets are on sale until 21st August, with additional discounts for both CMA and SRA members.
