Teacher education at the University of Bedfordshire has had a great end of term report following its latest Ofsted inspection.

In the report published this month the University was awarded a Grade 2 or a ‘Good’ for the effectiveness and quality of its Primary Initial Teacher Education (ITE).

Earlier this year the University also received ‘Good’ across all its Early Years, Secondary and Further Education phases, with an award of ‘Outstanding’ for the leadership and management of its partnerships in the secondary education phase.

The Ofsted report commented: ‘Leaders share a very evident passion to ensure that they are constantly improving the provision to produce the very best possible teachers. There is an overarching, coherent plan for teacher education across all phases, a positive vision for excellence and an effective pursuit of improvement at all levels.’

Juliet Fern, Head of the School of Teacher Education at Bedfordshire said: “We very much welcome this Ofsted report which provides external validation as to the quality of Teacher Education delivered here at the University of Bedfordshire.

“I am delighted the report identified good practice across all our phases including the pastoral support we provide for our students, our improving student outcomes, and the high employment rate of our trainees. These are areas we have particularly focused on.

“I would advise anyone who is considering a career in teaching, but not sure which route to take, to get in touch.”

The University provides a wide range of options for teacher education. This includes a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) in Primary and Secondary teacher training. It also offers undergraduate routes for Primary teacher training and for Physical Education (PE) teachers in secondary.

Bill Rammell Vice Chancellor of the University of Bedfordshire said: “This has been an amazing month for the University. As well as celebrating our Ofsted report, the first ever Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) awarded us a Silver, with the quality of our teaching judged to be at Gold standard.

“I believe we truly are providing a transformative educational experience to all our students.”
