The University of Bedfordshire has retained its position as one of the world’s top institutions under 50 years old, in the Times Higher Education, 2018 Young University rankings.

For the second year, Bedfordshire was named as one of the top 250 young universities in the world, placing in the 151-200 category. The UK is the most-represented country, with 31 universities making it into the league table.

The Young University Rankings focus on universities that, unlike many of the world’s top-ranked universities, do not have centuries of history or tradition. Instead of focusing on reputation it measures universities on the quality of their teaching, research, citations, international outlook and industry income.

Vice Chancellor of the University of Bedfordshire Bill Rammell said: “It is a great honour to be named as one the top young universities in the world. It is especially good to see the quality of our teaching and our world leading research highlighted.

“This follows our award of Silver in the first national Teaching Excellence Framework, representing the judgement that our teaching is significantly and consistently above the standard expected in UK higher education.”

“The University of Bedfordshire is proud to be a young university that is breaking down barriers to education. We are international in our outlook and our ground-breaking applied research is changing people’s lives for the better right now.

“This achievement is testimony to the hard work of all our staff and the talent of our students."
